Monty Python at London Summer Olympics Closing Ceremony

Monty Python had a great performance at the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony. Specifically, Eric Idle performed the song Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life.

The 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony gathers many famous British artists such as George Michael, Muse, Ed Sheeran and more. Among them, the two most expected groups are Monty Python and Spice Girls. The Spice Girls were in full attendance, of course, Victoria Adams – David Beckham’s wife also appeared.

Art director Kim Gavin shared that Monty Python and Spice Girls will bring unique British musical colors. According to music director David Amold, they will bring to the London Olympic Games a spirit both extreme and humorous. In addition, the atmosphere will also be a bit romantic and emotional.

Eric Idle from Monty Python has brought a humorous British atmosphere. In the opening, he wanted to be shot out of a cannon. However, it does not work. Eric Idle conducted a performance among a crowd of nuns. The song Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life is very attractive. This is a familiar melody from Life Of Brian – a famous comedy troupe’s film.

During his performance at the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony, Monty Python comedy team member still kept the lyrics “Life’s a piece of shit when you look at it”. The audience heard this sentence when watching live and lived-stream of NBC. However, NBC Television cut this sentence before broadcasting to audiences.

Not only performed at the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony but Always Look on the Bright Side of Life also resounded in the 2014 World Cup. Recognizing the lack of optimism around England’s chances of going deeper into the next round, Monty Python added a piece from the Life of Brian soundtrack to this song. It was originally composed to encourage a young man who was mistaken for the Messiah when he was suspended on a cross but now has become a famous song that everyone in a large stadium must sing along.
